In a double dose of David Dhawan, both Deewana Mastana and Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi shared a milestone release date, hitting theatres on the same day in 1997.
Remember the iconic Deewana Mastana climax, where Salman Khan shockingly steals Juhi Chawla from Anil Kapoor and Govinda? Well, it's been 27 years since the twist that no one saw coming made it to the big screen. David Dhawan directed the romantic comedy in 1997, featuring supporting characters played by Johnny Lever, Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo, Shakti Kapoor, Saeed Jaffrey, and Kader Khan. This film served as a tribute to Manmohan Desai. Interestingly, upon its release, Deewana Mastana became a hit at the box office.
In the film, a robber (Anil Kapoor) and a rich guy (Govinda) fall in love with a gorgeous doctor (Juhi Chawla). As the two wild lovers compete to capture her heart, mayhem erupts. In Deewana Mastana a talented psychiatrist named Neha finds herself in a humorous predicament when her patients, Bunnu and Raja, defiant juvenile delinquents, begin to feel romantic love for her. The situation turns into a fantastic comedy as the two rivals engage in a mental battle to win Neha's heart. While vying for her full attention, the two men set up a series of hilarious situations through their antics and misunderstandings.

Deewana Mastana was the first film in which Anil Kapoor and Govinda worked together. Meanwhile, it's the only film in which Juhi Chawla romanced Salman Khan, albeit briefly.
Deewana Mastana draws inspiration from the 1991 Tamil film Thiruda Thiruda while the Telugu remake, Nuvva Nena, debuted in 2012.
In 1997, Dhawan released two films on the same day. Indeed, that same day saw the release of Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi a romantic comedy that was a remake of the 1992 Telugu film Aa Okkati Adakku. It features Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla. Unlike its predecessors, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, the fifth film in the Khiladi series focuses mostly on comedy. The film received mixed box office returns.
After hearing good things about Raja's future from his astrologer uncle (Satish Kaushik), Akshay Kumar decides to sit on his hands until they come true. One day, a woman approaches him at a bus stop, but he responds angrily, recalling his uncle's warning not to speak to a single woman. He learns that she is married and attempts to be honest with her, but her husband shows up out of nowhere to beat him. Then, Juhi Chawla's Shalu car collides with Raja's. Kazer Khan, who is a millionaire, is the father of Shalu. They took Shalu into custody after he sustained significant injuries. While he is in the hospital, his uncle visits him and urges him to forgive Shalu. He adamantly tells the inspector that they should free Shalu because this was his fault. After her release from prison, Shalu goes to see Raja, but he isn't interested in meeting her. Shalu informs her father that her prospective spouse has arrived after falling in love with him. But Raja's future father-in-law is not satisfied with his slack attitude and demands that he work hard and earn ₹100,000 so he can have Suhag Raat with his daughter. In the end, Raja achieves his goal by winning a wrestling battle against Kaalu Pehelwan (Emmanuel Yarborough).
