One of the iconic family dramas of Tamil cinema, Surya Vamsam, starring Sarath Kumar in the lead, completes its 25th year today. The film which was remade into Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, is one of the most watched movies on television, thanks to its repeat-watch value.

The 1997 release directed by Vikraman still remains the favourite of many audiences in Tamil Nadu because of the effective emotional sequences and relatable family drama in it. Sarath played dual roles in the movie which has Devayani, Priya Raman, Radhika, Anandraj, Manivannan and Nizhalgal Ravi among others essaying significant characters in it.

On the occasion of the movie celebrating its special day, Sarath took to Twitter to post a few posters of the film and penned a heartfelt note thanking the audience and its makers. Sarath wrote, "It is such a nostalgic moment to recollect the days working in the super hit movie Suryavamsam produced by RB Choudary and directed by Vikraman."

He added that the blockbuster movie still holds the record for being the film which has been watched by the most number of people in theatres and that a year of run is no ordinary feat.

"I thank the fans, well wishers and the audience for having liked and supported the film. Thank you and the encouragement will never be forgotten and I will work harder to give one such a film again (sic)," he posted.

The veteran actor, who made his OTT debut last year with Parampara (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), a Telugu web series, has a few Tamil movies in his kitty, among the most-anticipated Ponniyin Selvan and Varisu. The former is likely to release on September 30 while the latter will hit the screens on Pongal 2023. The Smile Man and Encounter are a few other movies of his which are currently in production stages.
