It's been 25 years since Sarfarosh hit the big screen. John Matthew Matthan wrote, produced, and directed the hard-hitting 1999 action thriller Sarfarosh, which starred Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, and Mukesh Rishi in the lead roles. Now that the film's release has reached a milestone, Sonali took to her social media pages to celebrate the same. Sarfarosh which is currently streaming on ZEE5 (also on OTTplay Premium), is about an Indian police officer's fight against transnational terrorism.

While sharing the 25-year anniversary post for Sarfarosh Sonali dropped a montage of her sweet moments from the film, which she shared with Aamir, their songs, and the sizzling chemistry in Jo Haal Dil Ka. She wrote, "25 years ago today... #AamirKhan #JohnMatthewMatthan #25YearsOfSarfarosh."

Synopsis of Sarfarosh
As per reports, John dedicated seven years to research, pre-production, and production, culminating in its final release in 1999. The film depicts Ajay Rathod (Aamir Khan) transitioning into a police officer following the terrorist murder of his brother. After some time has passed, he is still working with the criminal branch when he comes across information that could lead to the downfall of terrorist artist Gulfam Hassan (Naseeruddin Shah).
The film's premiere occurred at a time of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, right before the Kargil conflict. The picture was a financial and critical hit upon its initial release. Shah, Khan, and Rishi were the most highly praised members of the cast for their performances in the film.
The story, music, and technical elements were also highly acclaimed. After its screening at the International Film Festival of India, the film received the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Remakes in other languages
Following its initial success, Vishnu Manchu and Anushka Shetty starred in the Telugu remake, Astram (2006), and Devaraj starred in the Kannada remake, Sathyameva Jayathe.
