Seldom do horror films leave an impact in Tamil cinema. One such film which did was the 2003 Tamil film Whistle, which now has completed 21 years since its release. Whistle is a loosely based on and remake of the 1998 American film Urban Legend. The film starred then debutant Vikramaditya along with Gayathri Raguram, Sherin, Vivek, Dhivyadarshini, Livingston, Bhanu Chander, Mayuri, and Vaishnavi, among others.
The film revolves around a group of college students, whose part of their campus is said to be haunted and centres around urban legend. With each of them getting killed in mysterious ways, it is up to a certain few to unravel the secrets. The film takes inspiration from various urban legends for each of its subplots.

Sujatha has penned the dialogues for Whistle. A comedy track featuring Vivekh in the film is based on What Women Want. Composer D Imman scored the music for Whistle. The track Azhagiya Asura and Whistle Adikum Vadana were chartbusters at the time of its release. Whistle was shot by cinematographer Fowzia Fathima and edited by Suresh Urs. Media Dreams backed the film.

It is to be noted that Whistle received mixed to positive response upon its release, from the critics. The soundtrack, cast performance, and writing were some of the elements that were greatly appreciated.
Meanwhile, JD and Jerry last helmed the 2022 science fiction film The Legend, featuring Legend Saravanan in the lead role. On the other hand, actors Gayathri Raghuram and Sherin had appeared in various seasons of Tamil reality show Bigg Boss.
