Nala Damayanthi, the 2003 Tamil film starring Madhavan and Geetu Mohandas in the lead roles, has clocked 21 years since its release. The film was directed by Mouli, with Kamal Haasan serving as both the writer and producer of Nala Damayanthi. With the film's anniversary falling today (June 12), you can revisit it by streaming it on Amazon Prime Video.
Nala Damayanthi is a romantic drama directed by Mouli. It is written by Kamal Haasan and Mouli, with the former bankrolling the film along with Chandra Haasan under his banner, Raaj Kamal Films International. Nala Damayanthi stars R Madhavan, Geetu Mohandas, Shruthika, Sriman, Dhivyadharshini and others.
On Wednesday, the film has clocked 21 years since its initial release. The film follows the story of a naive cook from Palakkad who goes to Australia to earn better income and settle his sister's dowry. However, due to a mess-up, he is left visa-less and is forced to marry a woman in order to stay in the country legally.
Nalla Damayanthi marked Geetu Mohandas’ debut in Tamil cinema as a lead actress. She had appeared as child artist in the 1988 Tamil film En Bommukutty Ammavukku. The film is available for streaming on Prime Video.

Nala Damayanthi was released on June 12, 2003 and got a positive reception. Subsequently, it was remade in Hindi as Ramji Londonwaley in 2005. Ramesh Vinayakam scored the music for Nala Damayanthi. It is one of the few Tamil films that is primarily set in Australia. Kamal Haasan and Jayaram make cameo appearances in the film as well.
Meanwhile, Madhavan, who was last seen in the Hindi film Shaitaan alongside Ajay Devgn and Jyotika, is currently busy with the cricket-based Tamil film Test. It also stars actors Nayanthara, Siddharth and Meera Jasmine in pivotal roles. Directed by producer Sashikanth, a release date for Test is yet to be announced by the makers.
