It has been 21 years since the release of the 2003 romantic drama film Iyarkai. The film stars Shaam, Arun Vijay and Radhika Kumaraswamy in the lead roles. Iyarkai is directed by late filmmaker S. P. Jananathan in his directorial debut. Iyarkai went on to become a critically acclaimed film and even won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 51st National Film Awards in 2004.

Iyarkai is a romantic drama that went on to become a classic in SP Jananathan’s works. The film won several accolades. Produced by Prisem Films, Vidyasagar's music became one of the plus points of the film, which made the film evergreen for the Tamil film audience.
The film explored the pain of unrequited love, expectations and loss without a closure. It went on to become one of the much-appreciated romance stories told in Tamil cinema. Cinematographer N. K. Ekambaram shot the film and Ganesh Kumar handled the edits.
