Actor Byeon Woo-Seok has been making quite a buzz on the internet thanks to his charming character and outstanding performance in the ongoing K-drama, Lovely Runner. Despite making his acting debut in 2016, Woo-Seok nabbed his first lead role in the K-movie 20th Century Girl, which was released in 2022. It was also the first time he collaborated with Kim Yoo-Jung, who has been ruling the Korean entertainment industry since her childhood. The duo brought high-school characters to life, leaving an everlasting impression on fans.

After K-dramas like 49 Days (2011), Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), Uncontrollably Fond (2016) and Hi Bye, Mama! This K-movie sheds light on the adorable relationships between friendship and love, and how the adolescent age blurs the capability of understanding the differences. High school is that growing up age when youngsters get to navigate the complexities of love and friendship with pure and innocent hearts. The characters in 20th Century Girl are absolutely selfless. Even the storyline doesn't focus on jealousy or hatred. Rather it highlights the power of deep bonding and understanding. The sole priority of this movie is to showcase how teenagers only think of each other’s happiness, and not only focus on their own problems.

The story is pure heavenly. There's no villain to point at. It's all about just nature’s bittersweet realities. The makers wanted to point out the harshest reality of life through a fictional love story. Despite having good intentions and genuine affections, not all love stories culminate with a happy ending. The movie highlights the point that people and their way of thinking evolves. Destinations and motivations change. The most important part of 20th Century Girl is, it doesn't shy away from the devastating truth of life, which is death. The most tragic loss one could ever experience.

20th Century Girl story

The 1-hour-59-minute movie is full of surprises. In the beginning, we get to see Na Bo-Ra (Kim Yoo-Jung) and her best friend Kim Yeon-Du (Roh Yoon-Seo) living their lives to the fullest. We also get to see some adorable encounters between Na Bo-Ra and Poong Woon-Hoo (Byeon Woo-Seok), which will make you blush if you are a die-hard K-drama fan. But towards the end, we get to see some heartbreaking separations.

The first painful scene occurs when Poong Woon-Hoo has to travel back to New Zealand, where his mother and little brother live. On the day of his departure, Na Bo-Ra reaches the train station just in time to confess her feelings for him. This heartbreaking separation will have you in tears. Woon-Hoo and Bo-Ra maintain a long-distance relationship, which offers a ray of hope, as Woon-Hoo plans to go back and attend university in Seoul.

The second painful scene occurs when years pass and Bo-Ra can't contact Woon-Hoo anymore. Bo-Ra has already begun her higher studies at the university, but Woon-Hoo does not return. Despite several calls and finding every other way to contact his family, Bo-Ra is unable to get any updates about Woon-Hoo. Years pass and Bo-Ra is now a working woman. The soul-stirring part is that Bo-Ra seems to still be waiting for Woon-Hoo, but this time without any hope or expectations.
