20 years of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein: Dia Mirza and Madhavan get nostalgic and thank team for a memorable film

A remake of RHTDM is in the talks and will reportedly star Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon. The 2001 film that starred R Madhavan, Dia Mirza and Saif Ali Khan is available to stream on Eros Now

Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein 

It's been two decades since the release of one of the most popular romantic films Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein. The film became a rage among the youth during the time of its release for its relatable content and beautiful songs.

The film is special for many other reasons too. It gave instant fame to its actors R Madhavan and Dia Mirza who made their debut in Hindi cinema with this story of hopeless romantics. The songs like Zara Zara, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana are hummed even to this date. They topped the Bollywood music charts upon release. The album was also very well received by the critics. The songs were written by Sameer and composed by Harris Jayaraj. The last three tracks were bonus tracks and did not feature in the film.

The film was released in 2001 and was directed by Gautham Menon. The actors of the film took to their social media to mark the celebrations of 20 years of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein. Dia Mirza posted on Instagram recalling her debut 20 years ago and called her journey so far 'Humbling, gratifying, challenging'. Sharing the poster of the film, she wrote: 20 years of pure love ❤️ It’s been 20 years since my debut today! What an amazing journey this has been. Humbling, gratifying, challenging. I hope to continue to learn and grow as an artist. Thank YOU all for your love and generosity. R Madhavan too went down memory lane and shared some fan-made videos and reshared Dia's post on his Instagram story and thanked the team for offering them such a memorable film. He wrote in his story that he couldn't have expressed his emotions better and thanked 'sweet lady' Dia for sharing it. He also thanked the entire team for such a 'precious' film.

Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein was a remake of the Tamil film Minnale. The story revolves around Madhav, played by Madhavan, who impersonates Rajeev (Saif Ali Khan), a prospect for marriage for Reena (Dia Mirza), to win her heart. The film opened to mixed reviews but outgrew its initial response with multiple screenings on television, leading to a cult following amongst young audiences.

The film is now said to be remade again in Hindi with a fresh lead pair. According to Pinkvilla, the film is set to get a sequel 20 years after its release and Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon are the frontrunners for the project. If they are finalised for the film, it would also mark their first collaboration.
