Suriya in Kaakha Kaakha
Gautham Menon's Kaakha Kaakha, one of the trendsetters of Tamil cinema, completed its 20th anniversary yesterday. The action-packed cop drama, starring Suriya in the lead, became a turning point in the actor's career. Jyotika, Jeevan and Daniel Balaji played notable roles in the project which was bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Thanu.
RD Rajasekhar's cinematography, Anthony's editing and music by Harris Jayaraj received unanimous positive responses from moviegoers and were highlights of the blockbuster hit. The movie marked the third collaboration of Suriya and Jyotika after Poovellam Kettuppar and Uyirile Kalanthathu. The film also marked the beginning of the popular Suriya-Gautham combo that went on to make Vaaranam Aayiram and a segment in Netflix's Navarasa as well.
Suriya took to Twitter to express excitement about Kaakha Kaakha completing 20 years. He said that the character Anbuchelvan he played in it will always remain special to him. The role is considered as one of the iconic cops in the history of Tamil cinema. The actor also posted a couple of BTS stills clicked from the location.
He tweeted, "A film that gave me my All! Anbuchelvan will always be close to my heart. Wishes to all the “ilamkandrus” of #KaakhaKaakha the technicians, #Jo who first spoke to me about the film & my co-actors, & @menongautham thank you… So many good memories… (sic)."
Fans of Suriya started trending #20YearsOfKaakhaKaakha on Twitter and posted a few pics and videos from the movie. It is heard that the makers might consider a re-release for the film.
Gautham's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, starring Kamal Haasan, was released recently and garnered a decent response from film buffs. Rajinikanth's Baba was another movie which re-released a few months ago.
