Also starring Indrajith Sukumaran, Indrans and Deepak Parambol, the movie marks the directorial debut of Indhu VS.
Vijay Sethupathi is a beloved actor across the South Indian film industry and has a considerable fanbase in the state of Kerala. The actor is set to appear in just his second Malayalam movie with 19(1)(a) co-starring Nithya Menen. The movie’s makers have now released its official trailer.
The trailer does a fantastic job of ensuring that only very little detail about what the movie’s story is revealed. We understand that Nithya Menen owns a small shop that does photostats and DTP, while Vijay Sethupathi is a Tamilian writer who is now in Kerala. The movie also shows Vijay’s character giving a handwritten book to Nithya for printing and the two bonding over it.
However the trailer also hints that the movie will have a darker side to it, as the main character’s find themselves in trouble over the book. With the intriguing title of the movie, fans can expect a film that will have layers to it, sticking closely to the contemporary world.
The movie marks the directorial debut of Indhu VS, who has previously worked with Salim Ahammed in his award-winning films such as Adaminte Makan Abu and Pathemari. Apart from Vijay and Nithya, the film also features Indrajith Sukumaran, Deepak Parambol, Srikanth Murali, Athulya, Bhagath Manuel and Indrans.
“Both Nithya and Sethupathi haven’t been cast in a way synonymous with the usual pairing of lead stars. They aren’t presented in this film as the conventional hero and heroine, but the story travels through their characters,” Indhu previously told OTTplay in an exclusive .
The film, which the director called a “political drama”, is set to start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on July 29.
