19 years of Deewane Huye Paagal

The Internet has hailed Deewane Huye Paagal as an underrated gem after 19 years. Viewers invariably become captivated whenever Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal appear together on screen. Vikram Bhatt, who rarely ventures into the comedy genre, directed the film. For the uninitiated, with a few tweaks here and there, Deewane Huye Paagal is an unofficial remake of the 1998 film There's Something About Mary.

Film's unconventional story and star cast

The 2005 romantic action comedy featured Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Rimi Sen, Paresh Rawal, and Johnny Lever in the lead roles, while Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani are among the special appearances.

In Deewane Huye Paagal after witnessing a criminal commit murder, Tanya (Rimi Sen), a young girl, flees to Dubai. As her adoring buddy Karan (Shahid Kapoor) pursues her, he soon learns that she has multiple admirers, including the gangster.

However, the film bombed at the box office, even though critics gave it a positive reception.

Film's slapstick humour and eccentrity

The slapstick humour of Deewane Huye Paagal is spot on. Entertainingly dysfunctional supporting characters, such as obsessive lovers, the gang of clumsy sidekicks, or the love-stricken protagonist's wild antics, contribute to the film's eccentricity. The brisk pace and unique plot have kept viewers engrossed throughout the years. The film's signature humorous charm was its dependence on mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and odd events.

The film failed miserably at the box office, but its funniest humour and over-the-top scenes helped it become a cult favourite.

After 19 years, Deewane Huye Paagal cemented its position as a landmark in Bollywood's comedic canon, serving as a poignant reminder that stories can often be most memorable for their inherent purity and utter ridiculousness.

Streaming availability on multiple OTT platforms

Deewane Huye Paagal is available to stream on various OTT platforms, including JioCinema (OTTplay Premium), Prime Video, ShemarooMe (OTTplay Premium), and Lionsgate Play (OTTplay Premium).
