Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor's film Dor was well received upon its theatrical release on September 22, 2006. The film, which featured Ayesha Takia, Gul Panag, and Shreyas Talpade in pivotal roles, has completed 18 years since it was released in cinemas. The movie follows the story of two women, Meera and Zeenat, who come from different backgrounds, but their fate brings them together. Nagesh Kukunoor's film Dor was the official Hindi remake of the 2004 Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam. As per IMDb, the film's official synopsis reads, "Two women --different backgrounds, miles apart, and strangers to each other-- are linked by tragedy. Their new-found friendship is tested as one holds the fate of the other's husband in her hands."

Meanwhile, in an interview with Zoom, Nagesh Kukunoor shared his experience of working on Dor as the film turned 18 today. The filmmaker recalled Rajasthan has turned the film's regular shoot into 'something special. Kukunoor further said, "And every day as we toiled under the brutal heat, things fell into place. But it wasn't until Shafqat Amanat Ali was belting out Yeh Hausla Kaise Jhuke in Salim-Sulaiman's studio, that we felt something magical was taking place."
The director revealed that it was only at the end of his film's shoot, that he realised Dor's full impact. His film also featured Rushad Rana, Girish Karnand, Vishal Malhotra, and several others.
