It’s 17 years of Chennai 600028! The cricket-based sports drama, marked the directorial debut of filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, who is currently working with Vijay in GOAT- Greatest of All Time. Chennai 600028 released on April 27, 2007 and became a commercial blockbuster and gold standards of sorts for sports drama. Chennai 600028 is available for streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium. The film featured a young cast, including Jai, Shiva, Premji, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya and newcomers Ajay Raj, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Inigo Prabakaran, Karthik and Arun in the lead along with Vijayalakshmi Feroz and Kristine Zedek, and others. Most of the actors went on to become regular ensemble cast in all Venkat Prabhu films.

The film became one of the firsts to portray street cricket in films. Backed by SPB Charan, and JK Saravana, the film had music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
The film was remade in Bengali as Le Chakka, in Kannada as Bangalore 560023 and in Sinhalese as Super Six. Subsequently, Venkat Prabhu made a sequel titled Chennai 600028 II, with several cast members, including Jai, Shiva, Premji, Aravind Akash, and Nithin Sathya, returning. Vaibhav, Mahat and others were new additions.
Venkat Prabhu retained the film’s name for the sequel as well. The title refers to the pincode for Mandaveli area in Chennai, the place where the story is set against. The second part is available for streaming on SonyLIV in Hindi and Prime Video in Tamil.
