15 years of Subramaniapuram: Sasikumar thanks cast and crew, film buffs and media for the film's success

Subramaniapuram, which is regarded as one of the best movies ever made in Tamil, completes its 15th year today. Sasikumar made his directorial debut with the project which starred Jai, Swathi, Samuthirakani and Ganja Karuppu in pivotal roles. The film attained cult status upon its theatrical release in 2008.

An elated Sasikumar released a video in which he has expressed excitement about the movie celebrating its special occasion today. He has thanked the cast and crew, the movie buffs and the media for celebrating the film even after a decade-and-a-half of its release.

The actor-filmmaker said that his journey in the industry has been a roller-coaster ride and that everything began with Subramaniapuram. He thanked the movie's music director James Vasanthan and his friends, too. Sasi, who has helmed only one project after his sensational debut, is now gearing up for his third project.

Last year, too, he took to Twitter to thank the audience. His post read, "July 4 will always spl to me #Subramaniyapuram was released on this day 14 years ago. It just feels like yesterday. I’m humbled by the way people revere it, until today. Very soon you will hear the news about my Nxt venture, of course, as a filmmaker (sic)."

Interestingly, Samuthirakani also expressed happiness about the film's anniversary today and said that cinephiles can expect an update on Sasikumar's next film soon. Anurag Kashyap, who has always appreciated the movie, too, went gaga over the gangster drama.

The Tamil movie was the inspiration behind the Bollywood filmmaker's Gangs of Wasseypur franchise. SR Kathir and Raja Mohammad handled cinematography and editing respectively for the film.
