14 years have passed since Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Ranbir Kapoor gave us a soulful romantic comedy-drama, Anjaana Anjaani. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Siddharth Anand, the film released in 2010, in which two strangers meet and agree to die by suicide in 20 days on New Year's Eve. In the meantime, the two fall in love after fulfilling each other's individual desires. Vishal-Shekhar's critically acclaimed and commercially successful score for the film delighted both critics and audiences. The 2001 Telugu film Itlu Sravani Subramanyam served as inspiration. The movie promoted itself with the slogan "All the Greatest Love Stories Are Between Strangers".

Journey of love and self-discovery

In Anjaana Anjaani the unlikely meeting of Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) sets them on a journey of self-discovery, filled with the exquisite anguish and joy of falling in love—a feeling that neither of them appears to be aware they are experiencing. They set out on a cross-country road journey, hell-bent on fulfilling their dying wishes, but life gets in the way and they have to make some tough decisions. The two strangers go their own ways, still not knowing each other, dismissing their time together as a short, wild fling that ended when they got back to their regular lives. But now they're both different, and they can't help but wonder if their short time together was the unexpected start they were hoping for. In this touching and hilarious adventure, two complete strangers, Akash and Kiara, discover the meaning of life and undergo a profound transformation as a result.

Anand was struggling to come up with ideas for his unique romantic comedy. His wife, Mamta Anand, then devised the film's central storyline, thrilling him and altering his outlook. Anand approached novelist Advaita Kala, who expanded the idea into a full-length film screenplay and then collaborated with him to write it. The shoot took place in New York, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

Mixed reviews for a unique romance

The critical reception was uneven, with some praising the Anjaana Anjaani for its original idea and others criticising its script and pacing while praising its score, cinematography, comedy, costumes, and performances by the leads. Because it featured the first collaboration between Priyanka and Ranbir, Anjaana Anjaani was a highly anticipated film.
