The movie, which has an ensemble cast, marks the second straight OTT release from the director-actor combo after the acclaimed Drishyam 2
A year after their much-acclaimed direct-to-OTT release Drishyam 2 dropped on Amazon Prime Video, Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph are set for another streaming release with 12th Man. The mystery thriller, which has an ensemble cast, will drop in May.
The film is a multi-starrer featuring Mohanlal, Unni Mukundan, Anu Mohan, Sshivada, Priyanka Nair, G Chandunath, Saiju Kurup, Anu Sithara, Anusree and Rahul Madhav. The film revolves around 12 people and the story spans a day. 12th Man was extensively shot indoors. In fact, unlike Drishyam 2, which was made keeping in mind a theatrical release, 12thMan was always meant to be an OTT movie from the get-go.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Mohanlal told us that both Bro Daddy and 12th Man were planned in such a way to generate curiosity among the audience to get them to watch the films on OTTs. While Bro Daddy marked the reunion of the Lucifer combo, 12th Man will see the Drishyam team collaborate.
“Because 12th Man has the team of Drishyam 2, it will have an interest. Let there be a market for Malayalam cinema in OTTs too. The platforms will pick more movies from the language only if there are successful films coming out,” explained the superstar.
The movie’s rights were sold to Disney+ Hotstar as early as last November, even before Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham hit theatres. Mohanlal had confirmed this to us in the interview.
The post-production work of the film concluded in the last week of March and the movie is ready for release. The makers are expected to release the trailer of the film along with its official release date soon. Rumours suggest that the movie could release in May second week.
