A scene from 12th Fail where Vikrant Massey cries immensely.
Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra recently reached a remarkable milestone with his latest cinematic masterpiece, 12th Fail, as it successfully completed 100 days in theaters. To commemorate this achievement, the entire cast, featuring lead actors Vikrant Massey, Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, and Anshumaan Pushkar, came together for a grand celebration in Mumbai yesterday. Adding to the accolades, the film's associate director, Jaskunwar Kohli, shared a heartfelt letter on Instagram today, expressing his memorable experiences on the film sets.
Jaskunwar Kohli is clearly overwhelmed knowing about the success of 12th Fail, both at the theatres as well as on OTT. In the last 100 days, the film received praise from superstars Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kamal Haasan.
Not only this, but the lead actors of 12th Fail, namely Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, have been receiving numerous accolades for their terrific performance in the film. In backdrop of these developments, the film’s associate director Jaskunwar Kohli shared what he feels about the film.
Jaskunwar said, “I will never forget this moment — during the shoot of the final result scene, Vikrant Massey had to fall down onto his knees again and again. But no matter how many takes it took, he cried so deeply every time that it was unbelievable. In the middle of takes when he would be standing, ready for the shot, he would keep muttering one line to himself — “Main bhi yahan tak bina oxygen support ke pahuncha hoon, woh bhi nange pair.” This is the line Manoj Kumar Sharma says to the panelists during his interview.”

Later, when the shot was done, Jaskunwar recalled that Vikrant sat down on the floor but did not stop crying. In his words, Vikrant cried and cried as Medha gently held him by the shoulders. Wrapping up the letter, Jaskunwar termed this scene as the most iconic moment from the film, it was not just Manoj Kumar Sharma (on whom the film’s story is based), but also Vikrant Massey. “The two sides of the coin blended into one surreal human experience. Both made it, together, at the same time,” the associate director said.
The film’s story is about an IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma who fearlessly embraces the notion of restarting his academic journey and reclaiming his destiny at a place where millions of students strive to conquer the world's toughest competitive exam: UPSC. The film can be viewed anytime on Disney Plus Hotstar.
