KGF: Chapter 2

K.G.F: Chapter 2 may no longer be the most trending topic on social media but the film’s presence in the minds and hearts of the fans is still palpable. Released on April 14, 2022, across the world to a resounding response, the film has etched a permanent name in the record books but most importantly, has also paved the way for subsequent Kannada releases. And as the film completes an incredible 100-day theatrical run, the weight of its impact lingers on.

Not only did KGF 2 put Kannada cinema on the map but has also made bona fide superstars out of Yash, the film’s leading man, writer-director Prashanth Neel, and the production house Hombale Films for putting it all together. While all the fans of the Rocking Star and the rest of the world look forward with bated breath to his next project, director Prashanth Neel is currently busy churning out yet another massive blockbuster in the form of Salaar (starring another pan-Indian superstar Prabhas, Shruti Haasan, and Prithviraj Sukumaran). Neel will be collaborating with Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale for the third straight time for Salaar and one can only hope that the association remains one of the most formidable of all time.

As far as Hombale Films is concerned, the Bengaluru-based production entity is moving on with it endeavors with great gusto and is said to have greenlit close to fifteen projects, slated to release over the next years and the list also includes two massive pan-India films. Hombale Films, by virtue of the K.G.F feat, has extended its reach to Tamil and Malayalam cinema with the Sudha Kongara (Soorarai Pottru) and Prithviraj Sukumaran projects respectively.

Yash’s journey to the point, on the other hand, is a solid testament to the fact that courage and perseverance can, indeed, make the biggest of dreams come true. Hailing from a humble background, he is a thorough self-made actor who has dedicated close to 8 years for the K.G.F franchise, lending it a whole new edge with his onscreen persona and also giving the film its deserved platform at the global level: from the football Manchester City referring to the film in a recent picture to massive box office collections in North America, the Gulf, Australia, etc. the K.G.F franchise is truly an international phenomenon.

Coming to the box office numbers, K.G.F: Chapter 2 has led the way and is currently placed at the top as the biggest hit of the year 2022 (thus far). Thanks to the incredible run of the original Kannada and the dubbed Hindi versions that the film managed to successfully go past biggies like RRR and others on the list of all-time grossers.
