10 years of Rockstar: Remembering the various shades of Ranbir Kapoor's Jordan

Released in 2011, Rockstar became one of the most career-defining roles for Ranbir Kapoor. After doing movies like Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and Raajneeti, Ranbir joined hands with one of the most acclaimed filmmakers, Imtiaz Ali. The director himself was riding high on Love Aaj Kal success, which was released two years before Rockstar.

As Rockstar completes 10 years today, we look back at the shades Ranbir showed through his character Jordan in the film. Rockstar also happens to be the only film, right before Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha, where Ranbir had a wide range of emotions and journeys on-screen.

So, here's looking at all the shades that came alive through Ranbir's Jordan. Even today, they all give the viewers goosebumps.

The lost soul

One way, Rockstar was very real in how it showed Jordan as someone still trying to find his passion and get recognition worldwide, while in college. Like most of the people at that stage and even later, he was confused about how to go ahead in life. The rest, of course, is history.

The Aashiq

Jordan's journey began as a Romeo. The minute he heard that heartbreak is all that a person needs to take life seriously, he fell head-over-heels in love. Who can even forget his direct approach? "Girlfriend ban jaa meri, rock kar denge bilkul bata raha hoon," became the new pick-up line, especially among rock band members.

The loner

Jordan literally had no one in the world he could call his own. He did not have great friends, his family threw him out, his lover got married to someone else and then died. And others try to get close to him only to pull him down. Ranbir's expressions throughout the film and especially through songs like Kun Faaya Kun and Naadaan Parindey portray exactly that - a person lost and alone in the crowd and controversies, who became a hero by losing everything in the process.

Pessimist

After being arrested, ditched by his lover and family, Jordan only knew negative emotions. He does not know how to treat anyone right because he has been so wronged. This quality is used for promoting him as an artist too. "Negative, sirf negative bikta hai," Piyush Mishra as Dhingra is heard saying while talking about Jordan. Sadda Haq and Ranbir's attitude through the song sealed the deal - that Jordan is negative, rude and mean. He was labelled negative and rude as he questioned the hypocrisy of people.

Real and raw

Ranbir and Imtiaz struck that beautiful line between right and wrong towards the end of the film. While Jordan is negative for everyone, he is an optimistic person in real life. It is how he survived so far. However, that side of him is reserved only for those who matter in his life and have accepted him in some way. In the end, it was reserved only for Heer, the love and heartbreak of his life.
