10 years of Lootera: Vikramaditya Motwane celebrates with a blurry picture and a heartfelt note

Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh, completes 10 years

When Lootera released in July 2013, it became an instant hit - not just because of the film’s melodious songs, but also for its stirring narrative taking the audience back to a bygone era and some sparkling performances by the lead cast. Celebrated filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane’s second directorial venture Lootera is a period romantic drama film, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. A decade later, the director remembers the making of the movie by posting a blurry picture and a heartfelt note that he shared on social media.

Taking to his Instagram page, Vikramaditya - whose recent period drama series for Amazon Prime Video, Jubilee was widely appreciated by the audience and critics alike - wrote: “The memories might blur with time but they will never fade way. We will always cherish them and know that something very special happened back then. 10 years of Lootera ♥️”.

The story of Lootera was from the 1950s, set against the backdrop of the Zamindari Abolition Act in the newly independent India. The narrative centred around a young con man (Varun Srivastava aka Vijay Tripathi, played by Ranveer), who posed as an archaeologist, and the daughter of a Bengali zamindar (Pakhi Roy Chaudhary, essayed by Sonakshi). The film also featured Barun Chanda, Vikrant Massey, Arif Zakaria, Adil Hussain, Divya Dutta and Shirin Guha in key roles.
