Nelson Dilipkumar's Beast witnessed never-before-seen expectations for a Vijay-starrer ever since its first look posters were unveiled. Billed as a spy thriller, its action-packed promo videos coupled with Anirudh's captivating music took its hype to next level. Yet, some of the star's fans were skeptical over its box office clash with Yash's most-anticipated Indian film KGF: Chapter 2.

However, they had pinned high hopes on the director who delivered Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor which garnered appreciation for its quirky and smart screenplay, but alas, the film opened to mixed reactions right after the fist day first show from various territories.

Vijay's presence and neatly composed action set pieces were appreciated, but the lack of wow factor, prolonged screenplay and logical loopholes received criticism. The much-hyped song Arabic Kuthu which appeared in the initial portions was enjoyed by fans, but the lacklustre second half and over-the-top heroism towards the climax tested patience.

The movie was released exactly a year ago, and many cinephiles have been taking to Twitter to recollect memories associated with the release of the film along with the hashtag #1YearOfBeast. As expected, there have been mixed response from Twitterati.

Fans of Vijay, who were disappointed with the film's result, were waiting for their matinee idol's next project Varisu. The family drama, which released this year, went on to become a huge grosser. They are now elated with the way makers of his next film Leo are promoting the project.

Movie buffs are now awaiting the comeback of Nelson Dilipkumar who is making Jailer with Rajinikanth in the lead. The film, that features an ensemble cast, is said to be hitting the screens in August.
