Kiranraj K’s directorial debut was about the transformative journey the protagonist has after a dog called Charlie comes into his life
June 10, 2022, is when 777 Charlie released in theatres across the country officially. In the run-up to it, the team, led by director Kiranraj K and producer-actor Rakshit Shetty, had conducted premiere shoots in several areas to gauge audience reaction to a genre a film that not many would dare to attempt. Here was a film, originally made in Kannada, with a dog as its central character and how it affects the people around it, especially Dharma (played by Rakshit), a loner, whose life was only about work, home, fights, cigarettes, beer and the two idlis he eats.
777 Charlie is a film that Kiranraj began working on many years ago. In fact, at that point, Rakshit was not even meant to act in it and he had Aravinnd Iyer on board. Over the course of time, things changed around and Rakshit became the lead actor, but even then it took them a while to finish shooting, as the team had to travel across the country to shoot the journey that Dharma and Charlie undertake.
The film’s emotional storyline got a major boost with composer Nobin Paul’s rousing score. 777 Charlie also starred Sangeetha Sringeri, Raj B Shetty, Bobby Simha and Danish Sait in pivotal roles and was well received at the box office. The film broke into the Rs 100 crore club with theatrical and non-theatrical revenue. As the film celebrates one year of its release, Rakshit’s banner, Paramvah Studio released a tribute video, featuring audience members talking about what they loved most about the film with the adorable canine.
The Kannada version of 777 Charlie is available to stream on Voot Select, while Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam are on the Amazon Prime Video store.
