Tahira Kashyap on why it is so tough to make a female-led film

Women telling women's stories has been a topic of discussion as a lot of viewers think that these stories are always filled with more emotions and heartfelt messages. When asked if she was scared of this, Tahira said, "Yes! But I’m also very excited and blessed that people are excited about such stories. It’s a beautiful time to be in. Can I please tell you, it was so tough to make a female-led film, which is why the years it has taken, which is why the obstacles doubled up where you have women as protagonists and it was all worth the struggle and the wait."

"I’m just like a kid in the candy shop, I’m just so excited about wherever and whatever is happening to this film. I had not anticipated any of this, how Mami happened, how Amazon Prime Video happened, I’m speechless but the only thing that I can mouth right now is Thank You," she added.

Further speaking about why she chose 'Sharmajee Ki Beti' as her directorial debut, Tahira explained, "This is the story that I always wanted to tell. It comes from a place of innocence, a lot of heart, experiences, observations, very close observations, so this is what I’ve seen, this is what I’ve experienced. There’s a part of me in most of the characters, or something that I’ve observed. So this was a story that was always within me and I’ve always wanted to make this."
