Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore is happy as her 2023 film Gulmohar won two National Film Awards. In an interview with OTTplay, the senior actress also revealed her son Saif Ali Khan's reaction.
Sharmila Tagore is one of the finest actresses of Indian cinema. In 2023, she featured in a film called Gulmohar, a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar. The veteran actress expressed her happiness as her movie won big at the 70th National Film Awards today (August 16). After the announcement, OTTplay spoke to the legendary actress, who is 'over the moon' as Gulmohar won two National Film Awards.
In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Sharmila Tagore shared her first reaction to Gulmohar bagging two National Film Awards: Best Hindi Film and Best Dialogues. "I am absolutely over the moon. I just love it and I am so happy. I just spoke to Rahul (Chittella), Simran and Manoj (Bajpayee). We have stayed friends since the movie and we are absolutely over the moon," she said.
The legendary actress further mentioned, "And what a beautiful journey this film has had: from audience appreciation to (winning) so many awards — best actress, best actor, best dialogue. At the national level, it has got the best film and best dialogue. The dialogues were so wonderful to speak. I am absolutely happy."
This victory is extra special for Sharmila Tagore as her son Saif Ali Khan celebrates his birthday today (August 16). "It is Saif's birthday and I am so happy that both things are happening together. It is very good," she stated. On being asked about Saif's reaction to her film's big victory, the senior actress added, "They (Saif and his family) are happy and they share (happiness) of course."
Directed by Rahul Chittella, Gulmohar marked the legendary actress' return to movies after her 2010 film Break Ke Baad. She essayed the character of Kusum Batra in the movie alongside Manoj Bajpayee, who was seen as Arun Batra. Produced by Star Studios, Autonomous Works, and Chalkboard Entertainment, the film was released on March 3, 2023.
