Raj Kumar Gupta On Raid 2 And More - Exclusive

Ajay Devgn is right now one of the busiest stars as he has not one or two but three movies lined up for the second half of 2024. He meets us on the big screen this week in Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and has two more releases by the end of this year. One of the two is a sequel to one of his most surprising hits, and the fans are pretty excited to know what the team is cooking up now. We are indeed talking about Raid 2, which follows Raid, released in 2018. The movie has been in the news for a long while, and the fans have been waiting for November when the movie hits the big screen.

In the meantime, Raj Kumar Gupta, the writer and director of Raid and Raid 2, joined OTTplay for an exclusive chat where he spoke about the editing stage of the film and the professionalism that Devgn brings to the sets of any movie he does. The filmmaker also opened up about the Telugu remake of the first Raid, which stars Ravi Teja in the lead. Read on to learn everything you should know about the same.

Raj Kumar Gupta on Raid 2

In the exclusive chat, when we asked Raj Kumar Gupta what he could tell us about Raid 2 and what path the movie takes now, the director was quick to say, “I cannot tell you where the story is going right now. That is something we will talk about when we meet before the release. I can tell you that the movie is right now at the editing stage. We have wrapped up the filming, and right now we are in the process of editing it. So now I can only tell you that much about Raid 2.”

Talking about Ajay Devgn, we spoke about how the star was shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and Raj Kumar Gupta’s Raid 2 around the same time. We asked the director if he ever had to remind the actor that he was on the Raid set and not Singham. Gupta said, “No, this never happens. Since the first Raid, I have realized he is a very intelligent actor, and he knows what kind of film he is doing. He is always in character, whichever part he is playing. He is someone who is always prepared on the sets. He is well aware of the film, of the surroundings, the milieu of the movie, and more.”

Raj Kumar Gupta on Ravi Teja’s Raid Remake

Further in the conversation, Raj Kumar Gupta spoke about the remake of Raid that stars Ravi Teja. While talking about the challenges of remaking a movie, he said, “I have not remade any movies yet. Rather, two of my films, Aamir and Raid, have been remade in the South. I do not know how it is done. It is on the ones who make it to decide how to make it.” When asked if he has any creative hold over the remake, Gupta added, “We shouldn't have it anyways. Because if someone is remaking it, then it is on the vision of the writer or the director where they want to take the film. And in every language, things change. There is also an acclimatization that happens according to the place that the movie is set in. What is the vibe of that space? What is the social fabric of that place? Things change according to that. All the best to them. I have not tried a remake as of yet, so I cannot comment on how I would do it.”

Later, we quipped on which movies he would want to remake if he got a chance, and the filmmaker had a very safe answer as he said, “I never say never. If there comes a film that I feel will be very interesting to do in our language, then why not?”

Raid 2 is set to release on the big screen on November 15, 2024. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
