Power of Paanch actor Barkha Bisht on beauty stereotypes; says 'Fair skin is still considered...' | Exclusive

In an interview with OTTplay, Barkha Bisht spoke about beauty stereotypes which exist in the showbiz as well as our country. The actress was recently seen in Power of Paanch.

Barkha Bisht has been actively working in the showbiz for over two decades. The actress has done several television shows, films, and web shows. During her OTT show Power of Paanch's promotions, OTTplay did an exclusive interview with her. On being asked if she had the power to break one stereotype, Barkha spoke about the beauty stereotypes that exist in the country and showbiz. The actress believes a person shouldn't be judged based on their looks but talent.

During a conversation with us, Barkha Bisht said people often feel an artist can do a particular character if they look a certain way in real life. The actress backed her statement with an example by saying, "In our country, specifically, there is a stereotype based on your looks. If you look a certain way in your real life, then you cannot do this character. For example - I'm looking like this urban western woman, to look at me and say, 'She can't play a village girl's role' or vice versa."

The actress further mentioned, "Fair skin is still considered beautiful. I think more than looking the part, you have to be able to see whether the person has the ability to play the part."

Giving another example to validate her point, Barkaha spoke about her Power of Paanch co-star Riva Arora, who was also a part of the conversation.

"Today, I would want to cast Riva as an extremely strong character. But when you look at Riva, one thinks she looks sweet, how will she be able to do it? So, that stereotype needs to break... never judge a book by the cover. So, don't look at my physicality and say she cannot be this character," she added.
