During the Tiku Weds Sheru trailer launch, Kangana Ranaut revealed that she was supposed to play the lead in the film about a decade ago, opposite Irrfan Khan. The film was titled Divided Lovers, and the latest Prime Video offering features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur in the lead roles. This is not the first time the actor has replaced Irrfan in a film since his demise in 2020.

Talking about this cosmic connection between the two, Nawazuddin exclusively told OTTplay, "There's a certain taste the filmmakers have, as we both come from the same institution, the National School of Drama. He was 10 years senior to me, so I have spent a lot of time with him. Thus, there's also an approach that becomes similar in terms of performance."

Earlier at an event, Irrfan's wife, Sutapa Sikdar, revealed that the actor had turned down Raat Akeli Hai which eventually starred Nawazuddin. She had said, "He wanted scripts to be entertaining and not preachy. It was very important for him. There were times when I would read the script and say, ‘It is very boring’. Or at times, he would remark, ‘This script is very bad’. I remember him talking about a film once like this. He didn’t call it ‘bad’. He said, ‘What is new about it?’ and 'Why should I do it?’. He finally didn’t do it because he was not well. That film was Honey Trehan’s Raat Akeli Hai (2020)."

When asked about the same, Nawazuddin said, "I found Raat Akeli Hai very interesting when I was offered it. Irrfan Bhai was also supposed to do Tiku Weds Sheru, but unfortunately, it couldn't happen."

The actor added, "Of course, it feels good that the same scripts that were offered to him are offered to me. There are other scripts that have come my way that he was supposed to take up."

He concluded by saying, "He was my senior and was a great actor; what more can I say?"
