Sanjay Leela Bhansali had 'tears in his eyes' after Adhyayan Suman's 5-minute-long shot on Heeramandi set. Here's what Shekhar Suman told his son following the same.
Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman are gearing up for the release of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. While Shekhar plays Zulfikar in the series, Adhyayn essays the role of Zorawar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web show. Before Heeramandi's premiere on Netflix, OTTplay interviewed Shekhar, who shared an interesting anecdote from the series' set. The actor revealed Sanjay Leela Bhansali had tears in his eyes after Adhyayan delivered a 5-minute-long shot in one take. After SLB called Shekhar to praise his son, the senior actor cried and said a few things to Adhyayan.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Shekhar Suman said he is an experienced actor and has worked with the best people. But he believes for Adhayayn Suman, it was a new journey, as he set out to work in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. "To know someone like Mr Bhansali as a taskmaster he was scared. So, I made him rehearse the whole night," said Shekhar.
He further spilled beans about Adhyayan Suman's five-minute-long shot on the Heeramandi set. "The next day, when he went for the shot, it was a five-minute long shot for which Mr Bhansali personally got up with tears in his eyes and hugged him and okay-ed the first take. Then, he (SLB) picked up the phone, called me and praised the boy to the skies," he recalled.
The senior actor also stated, "I was literally crying. I thought what more can a father ask for? There, I was a father who was reacting to his son's achievement. And I said (to Adhyayan), 'You have done me proud. Take this as your citation and as the biggest award, bigger than any Oscar or National Award, which you can carry with you all your life that Mr Bhansali has praised you so much'. So, that was beautiful."
Created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar's star cast includes Taha Shah Badussha, and Fardeen Khan. The female cast of the series includes Sanjeeda Shaikh, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal and Aditi Rao Hydari. The series will drop on Netflix on May 1, 2024.
