Vikrant Massey is seen alongside Chitrangda Singh and Sara Ali Khan in Gaslight.
The latest film to release on OTT is Pavan Kirpalani's Gaslight. The psychological thriller features an exciting cast including Chitrangda Singh, Vikrant Massey, and Sara Ali Khan. The film is currently premiering on Disney+ Hotstar. Ahead of the release of Gaslight OTTplay caught up with the team, wherein they spoke about the challenges of being a part of thrillers and not having any theatrical releases since the pandemic.
Speaking about the challenges of being a part of a thriller film, Vikrant told us, "It's very challenging and exciting in equal measure. The challenge exactly lies in sort of giving as much as you're probably allowed to, through your performance or through whatever limitations you have. If I have to speak of Gaslight, we were in very safe hands; we were being directed by Pavan Kripalani, whom I personally believe is a master in this particular space. He made a film, which is one of my all-time favourite psychological thrillers from India, called Phobia."
The talented actor added, "So a lot of it is a collaborative effort. You really have to surrender yourself to the director and your co-actors. It's an amalgamation of so many things coming together. It's quite a lot of things coming together. We hope that we've done a good job so that the audience can enjoy the film."
Talking about whether an OTT release eases the pressure as an actor, Vikrant, who started his journey with television, thinks contrarily. The actor stated, "It's actually very, very difficult to hold your audience's attention on television. As a byproduct of television, our fates used to be dependent on the click of a button on the remote control. So it's far more challenging for me to go out there, tell a story, and be a part of a story that really engages you, hoping that you will not get distracted and end up enjoying the film. So it's far more challenging."
He concluded by saying, "If I buy a movie ticket, the business is done. You might as well eat your popcorn and go to sleep. But over here, the number of hours that a person spends on the particular platform watching XYZ is fed into a database, and it's there for you to see."
