The Angamaly Diairies actor talks about his upcoming movies including Mission C, Adivaasi, Innalekal and Common Man
The pandemic has been tough especially for up-and-coming actors. Actor Sarath Kumar, aka Sarath Appani of Angamaly Diaries and Auto Shankar fame, however, proved that he could tap into his other talents to still remain in the creative field through a YouTube series called Monica that he wrote and directed.
“It’s something we did for survival,” pat comes his reply when OTTplay asks him about the venture, clarifying that his priority will always be acting and not directing.
On the acting front, Sarath, who was last seen in Fahadh Faasil’s Malik, is currently awaiting the release of Vinod Guruvayoor’s Mission C, which is set to hit theatres on November 5. Talking about the film that also has Major Ravi, Kailash and Meenakshi, Sarath says, “A lot of newcomers are part of the film’s cast. It’s a road-thriller that also has elements of romance and it’s also a pacy movie that would appeal to all kinds of audience.”
Sarath plays a journalism student in the film, which was shot in Ramakkalmedu, Idukki, right before the second lockdown. “I also had a few action sequences in the film and we shot all of this following the COVID-19 protocols. So, it was an interesting experience,” he says.
A few days ago, the actor had wrapped up the shoot of Vijeesh Mani’s Adivaasi, which is based on the life of tribal youth Madhu who was beaten to death by a mob in 2018 after being accused of theft.
On playing the character, Sarath tells us, “I am yet to come out of the Attapadi churam (mountain pass); Madhu still lingers in my mind. I had prepared a lot for the character. The movie is not Madhu’s biopic, it’s related to his hunger and nature conservation. That’s a subject that is not just related to Madhu’s life but across the world.”
Ask him about the preparations and he explains, “To play the role, I tried to lose as much weight as I can in the limited time. The character in the film is also emotionally disturbed so I tried to get into the headspace to play the part.”
Right after Adivaasi’s shoot concluded in Attapadi, Sarath left for Wayanad, where he began filming for debutant Vinesh Devasia’s Innalekal. “It is a proper feel-good movie that also has Arun Kumar. After this I will be starting work on an action film,” he says.
Sarath, meanwhile, also has a Tamil movie coming up that he says he is excited about. “I play the main villain in Sasikumar sir’s Common Man that will be released soon,” he concludes.
