Sara Ali Khan also believes that filmmaking is not objective.
Aanand L Rai's latest directorial, Atrangi Re opened to great viewership on Disney+ Hotstar. The film features Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. A lot of people have lauded the film for its "atrangi" concept and execution. However, many slammed the film and criticised it heavily regarding the treatment of mental illness and more. Sara now reacts to the criticism of Atrangi Re during an exclusive interaction with OTTplay.
The actor believes that, in the end, filmmaking is not objective. She gave an example of math, stating that one plus one equals two, but that's not how filmmaking works. Sara realised early on that the goal of making a film should not be to make everyone happy. She added that the intention should be to tell an honest story, and if it connects with anyone, that should be celebrated.
The Simmba actor further explained, "Connecting with everybody is never the aim. That you tell a story with honesty and that honesty reaches even to people, that is an achievement for me."
However, Sara revealed that she has only received appreciation from people whom she has spoken to and from comments she read on the Internet. The actor said that people complimented Rai, they complimented the music by AR Rahman, and also the actors. She called that a win.
Sara concluded by saying, "Will everyone enjoy the movie? No. It's a movie, not a math problem; it's fine."
Meanwhile, the Kedarnath actor revealed to us that she is overwhelmed with gratitude and truly humbled by the response Atrangi Re has received. Sara is simply grateful as it has been a long time since a film of hers has received such praise. The actor revealed that she had forgotten what it was like after Kedarnath and Simmba.
