Pankaj Tripathi said that he was familiar with characters like Gangaram in Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga and hence, he did not have to prepare much for the role. However, his portrayal of Kaleen Bhaiya of Mirzapur demands his creative imagination. The actor was in Kolkata to promote Srijit Mukherji’s film that also features Neeraj Kabi and Sayani Gupta.

Talking about Gangaram, Pankaj said that since he grew up in a village, characters like Gangaram are familiar to him. “I spent a couple of days trying to understand the flavour of the character. How does he talk? How does he react? And the rest took place automatically,” he said. Pankaj also mentioned that Gangaram is a brave character and his will to sacrifice himself for the greater good is what makes him different from the rest.

Meanwhile, Kaleen Bhaiya is a character of a crime lord and the actor confessed that he brought in his creative imagination to portray the character. “It is my craft that has shaped the portrayal of the character,” he said.

While talking about the Sherdil shooting, Pankaj said that he had good fun working in the forest. “We used to reach the jungle at 5 am and then we used to plan our movement along with the sunlight,” he said. The actor also revealed that the shooting team was fun to work with. “It was my first time with them. It was not a big team but we used to enjoy it together. We used to have Bengali food more often at the shooting,” he said.
