Sikandar Kher also spoke about gaining greater recognition with his role in Sushmita Sen starrer Aarya.
Sikandar Kher is back on the OTT screen with Aarya 2 in which he played the pivotal role of Daulat. In the first season, we saw (spoiler alert) that it was his character who killed Aarya's (Sushmita Sen) husband, Tej Sareen (Chandrachur Singh). Soon after that, Daulat lands up in jail in the season finale. Now, ahead of the release of Aarya 2 on Disney+ Hotstar, OTTplay exclusively met up with Sikandar for a video interview.
The actor spoke about returning to the same character after a gap for the first time. Sikandar stated, "Yes, it is a little challenging. That's because a lot of the time we are doing one film and then maybe some other thing. We go from one character to another character, and when they finish, we move to the next character. So this is the first time I've had to come back to a character that I had played about a year ago. And Daulat is also such a person who is not extra; he doesn't talk much. It took a little while to find, but on the first day of the shoot, director Vinod Rawat and I found Daulat together. I think by the fourth take, Daulat came back (smiles)."
Daulat's traits are pretty similar to those of Katappa in Baahubali who kills the lead character due to his loyalty to the throne. Similarly, Sikandar's character kills Chandrachur onscreen after Aarya's father instructs him to.
On being quizzed about the same, the actor shared, "I have unfortunately not seen Baahubali. I have seen Baahubali 2: The Conclusion but not the first part. Baahubali: The Beginning. So I don't know what will happen. But I don't draw any reference from anywhere, to be honest, because Daulat is a very unique character that came in this way. But I drew no kind of comparison to any other character."
Furthermore, Sikandar was asked about gaining greater recognition with OTT and Aarya. To which he said, "Absolutely, because OTT has given a lot of employment to everyone. It's not just actors but everybody: technicians, crew members, etc. People are getting a chance to show their work. For me also, I'm getting a chance to show my work and people are getting to see my work. If they enjoy it, if they like it, you get more work, and Aarya was so much appreciated and so loved by so many people. Of course, it does change your life in many ways because more people are watching your work, and if they like you, then you will get more work, and that really helps."
Aarya is set to stream on December 10, 2021.
