The director talks about his experience of working with an ensemble cast, the music and his experience of filming Bismillah after the release of the first teaser
Subhashree Ganguly, Riddhi Sen and Surangana Bandyopadhyay’s Bismillah is one of the most anticipated films that got stuck in the wrath of the pandemic. Musician-turned-director Indraadip Dasgupta started working on the film in mid-2019 and shot it in January and February. However, the pandemic postponed the release plan and finally, the multi-starrer musical is all set to hit the theatre.
Talking about the film, Indraadip told exclusively to OTTplay, “It is essentially a love story but also deals with various human conflicts – caste, religion and so on. The film is a milieu of many things and music plays an important part in the film. We took great care in shooting the visuals of the film.”
Besides Riddhi, Surangana and Subhashree, the film features a host of other stars, including, Kaushik Ganguly, Bidipta Chakraborty, Gaurav Chakrabarty and others. Talking about managing an ensemble cast, Indraadip said, “The shooting was a little hectic due to the shortage of time. But dealing with actors was no big deal. I have been working in this industry for far too long to get stressed out with the stars. Riddhi has been running here and that’s all. It was pretty cool.”
Meanwhile, Indraadip praised Subhashree for her diligence and dedication. “It was winter in Purulia and we were shooting in five-six degrees Celsius. I wanted her to get into a waterbody and she just walked in. Not just that. We had to take the shot again and her van was a little far. She waited there in her wet costume till the retake. I have seen her diligence and skill sets. She is the next big thing in Tollywood,” said the director.
The teaser of the film was released on July 1. Produced by Kaleidoscope, the film will be released on August 19.
