Dhrubo Banerjee has every reason to be happy. His film, Karnasubarner Guptodhon is going steady at the box office. The third instalment of the Guptodhon franchise collected Rs 4 cr approximately in five days from theatres. The treasure hunt drama that features Abir Chatterjee, Ishaa Saha, and Arjun Chakrabarty is leading among the four Puja releases, including Dev and Prosenjit Chatterjee’s Kacher Manush, Parambrata Chatterjee’s Boudi Canteen, and Chandreyee Ghosh’s Mission Everest. With the Puja holiday and houseful shows, the film is predicted to be one of the major blockbusters this year.

Dhrubo is evidently very happy with the success. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, he said, “Out of the three Sonada adventures, for the first time we had a Puja release. The last two films were released during the Summer vacation. This year, since the decision of schools opening after the pandemic was tentative, we decided to release it in Puja. While I am not finicky about the time of releasing a film, my aim is always to bring the audience to the hall. I think my biggest achievement lies in the massive footfall at the theatres. Watching films on a big screen is magical. I am glad that this film has brought back that magic in our lives,” the director told us.

Meanwhile, Dhrubo pointed out that the success of the film can also be attributed to its visual presentation. The film has a lot of VFX and special effects. “Many people have said that Karnasubarner Guprodhon is a big-budget film. In fact, some people have said that our budget crossed Rs seven-eight cr. In reality, that’s practically not possible for Bengali films. I am glad that the film looks more expensive than its budget. That means we have done something right with our limited resources,” he said. According to sources close to the makers, the film had a budget between Rs 2.5 cr.
