After Birohi and a few other shows, actor Ritwick Chakraborty and director Pradipta Bhattacharyya’s joint production channel Uribaba dropped another web series, Ulat Puran, in May. Along with a bunch of newcomers, seasoned actress and Ritwick’s wife Aparajita Ghosh Das has made a comeback after hiatus during the pandemic. Directed by Arunava Mitra, the film features a host of actors including, Uday Shankar Pal, Suchandra Chowdhury and others. The story that has the flavour of fantasy delves into the life of an elderly couple in a small town. In an exclusive chat with OTTPlay, Aparajita talked about her character, break during the pandemic and a lot more.

In the series, she plays the character of the couple's daughter who is hooked to Facebook live. “This was challenging as I did not know anything about Facebook live. I don’t even have a proper social media handle. And this character broadcasts almost every bit of her life on the live sessions. When I told the team my concern, they sent me links to a large number of live episodes of different Facebook users and I browsed through those,” Aparajita explained. She also praised the director Arunava and script writer Nilay Samiran Nandy for their hard work. “It wasn’t an easy shoot but they did a commendable job. At one point, we shot with two dogs. It was crazy but that went well,” the actress told us.

Talking about social media, Aparajita maintained that she still follows an old-school model and chooses to stay away from social media pressure. “I am aware that actors and actresses use social media professionally. Many casting firms select actors and actresses based on the number of social media followers. I have no opinion on their mode of work. However, I am still an old-school person and more comfortable putting my acting skills forward to bag a role. I have an Instagram account in which I mostly post photos of flora and fauna,” she said.

Talking about Ritwick and Pradipta’s venture into a production house, 180degree, and YouTube channel, Uribaba, Aparajita said that she believes they will not compromise with the quality of their production. “I strongly believe that they will maintain quality. There will be no compromise there. Also, they give artistic freedom to the makers. Pradipta – my long-term friend – introduced me to the director and then stayed out of the discussion. In fact, after I said yes to the project, I informed Ritwick that I would be working in their production. Until then, he was unaware of my involvement. They are professionals and I like that,” she said.
