The Mandaar actor opens up about his new show Johny Bonny on KLIKK.
By his admission, Anirban Bhattacharya’s Mandaar has given Debasish Mondal recognition in Tollywood. After playing Debraj Singh in Anirban Chakrabarti-starrer The Eken, Debasish will be seen in KLIKK’s original cop drama Johny Bonny opposite Swastika Dutta. Meanwhile, He will also be playing another high-ranking police officer in Sagnik Chatterjee’s upcoming thriller, Lady Chatterjee, with Arunima Ghosh. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, he opens up about his journey as an actor.
Debasish came to Kolkata from Delhi before Mandaar. The National School of Drama graduate has worked in Mrityunjay Devrat’s 2014 drama Children Of War. Later, he also worked in the first season of The Family Man. “It is after Mandaar that I got recognition and started getting calls. I worked in The Eken and after that in Mahabharat Murders,” the actor tells us.
Before coming to Kolkata, Debasish was a regular in the Delhi theatre circuit. For years, he has worked with the Kingdom of Dreams’ Bollywood musical Zangoora – The Gypsy Prince. Along with Hussain Kuwajerwala, Gauahar Khan, and Kashmira Irani, the production involved more than 100 actors.
Debasish will soon be seen in KLIKK’s series Johny Bonny, in which he plays the character of a failed cop. “It is a cop drama with a unique angle. While I cannot reveal much, I can say that my character starts with a mistake. He catches someone influential and as a punishment posting, he gets to guard a politician’s household. However, he gets into real crime,” he said.
Meanwhile, Debasish will play a DCP in Sagnik’s thriller Lady Chatterjee. “Arunima plays Jaggyaseni, a sharp mind who lives an unruly life. The police department seeks her help and I become her partner. Her maternal uncle, a senior police officer, also gets into the case. I think the story is well written and interesting,” he says.
