Ambajipeta Marriage Band is actor Suhas's latest film set for a February 2, 2024 release. Produced by GA 2 Pictures, the film has Telugu girl Shalini and Malayalam actor Nithin in key roles.
Ambajipeta Marriage Band is one of the most awaited films as it has talented actor Suhas in the lead role. The village drama is directed by debutante Dushyanth Katikaneni and is all set to hit screens on February 2, 2024. Suhas speaks to us about the film, his role, future projects, and much more. Here is the transcript.
Are you nervous about the film's release?
Yes, I always get nervous before my release. Even though I am super confident about the film's success, there is some tension about the reaction of the audience. I have worked on this project for two long years on this project and the makers, GA 2 Pictures, are taking the film deep into the audience with their impressive promotions.
Why are you always picking boy-next-door roles?
With the age and image I carry, I can only play roles that are closer to those of the common man. I cannot play the typical hero, as I do not have that look or persona. So, I am choosing roles that suit me and also enhance my acting skills. In Ambajipeta Marriage Band too, I play a barber who is a part-time musician in a band. The character is close to my heart and I had a lovely time playing it.
What is the basic backdrop of Ambajipeta Marriage Band?
Everyone thinks the film is based on caste-based oppression but it is not. Our film is about a few people's egos. I and Sarayan play twins in the film and how a small incident on our birthday creates a big rift between the hero and the villain is showcased superbly. The first 20 minutes are hilarious and once this incident happens, the film turns on its head and becomes engaging till the end.
What was it like to work with the likes of debut director Dushayanth?
Dushayanth is one of the most talented directors I have met in recent times. The moment I heard the script, I fell in love with it. His command of showcasing drama and emotions is superb. The way he has etched every character in the film will be quite realistic and everyone will get a feeling that the story is happening to us. After the film's release, he will be a big name in the industry.
What about your co-stars, Shalini and Nithin?
Shalini Nagaram is a Telugu girl who will go places after the release of the film. Her looks, natural acting, and screen presence are superb. Nithin is a Malayali actor and has done a superb job in the film. He learned Telugu and performed superbly in the film. He is one of the actors to watch out for in the days to come.
Is there a rule that you follow when selecting roles?
As of now, I have decided to do only lead roles. I make sure that the scripts I choose are different from those in regular commercial films. Selecting films that give scope for performance is my aim as of now. I feel there is a lot of time for me to do character roles. Due to the way I look, I feel I can do a better job when I get a bit older. For now, I do not want to typecast myself and surprise my audience with unique characters.
What about yout future projects?
Sandeep of Color Photo fame and I are collaborating on an upcoming film. I've recently wrapped up a project titled 'Prasannavadanam' with Sukumar's associate, and I'm also shooting for a film titled Cable Reddy. Additionally, there's an exciting project in the pipeline under Dil Raju's banner, featuring the dialogue writer from Salaar.
