Ajay Arasada is the most happening music director in Telugu cinema. He is in the news for his hit film Aay and the recently released series Vikkatakavi.
Ajay Arasada is a happening music composer in Telugu cinema. His work on several OTT projects released in 2024 has become a talking point all over. Ajay speaks to us about his new show Vikatakavi, his future OTT projects, composing music for web series, and grabbing the hit film Aay.
Not just in OTT, but my work in films has also been receiving a lot of praise. However, I’ve made a significant mark with my OTT projects like Save The Tigers and now Vikkatakavi. My score for Vikkatakavi has been getting a fantastic response from all quarters, and I’m thrilled that my hard work is finally paying off.
I was working on the film Aay when this offer came my way. After wrapping up that film, I composed the BGM for Vikkatakavi. Director Pradeep Maddali was incredibly supportive right from the beginning of the project. He had a clear vision of what he wanted for his series. With his input, I did some research to understand the sound of the bygone era and how musicians used to compose BGMs for thrillers.
Frankly, there isn’t much difference. When it comes to web series, you get a lot of time to experiment and create an atmosphere. In films, however, the music needs to be peppy and elevate the proceedings quickly. Both have their own unique sets of advantages and challenges.
OTT shows take time to grow on viewers. The mood can be developed gradually, which aligns well with my style, as it is classy and suits the narrative structure of web series. Since the music I created for a few series was loved by audiences, I’ve been offered multiple OTT projects. I don’t differentiate between OTT and films; I just give my best to every project.

I was born and brought up in Vizag. My sisters used to play the Veena at home, which sparked my interest in music. I also took training for a brief period before concentrating on my studies. I completed my engineering degree and worked for seven years as a software engineer.
While I had spare time on my hands, I started composing music for a few short films. Noted musician Sricharan Pakala, who is a close friend, recognized my talent. He invited me to work on the BGM for his film Goodachari. From there, I worked on projects like Ksheera Sagara Mathanam, Nede Vidudala, Missing, and Sriranganeethulu.
Producer Bunny Vas happened to hear some of my compositions from Missing. He loved them and kept in touch. When he began Aay, he brought me on board, marking a significant turning point in my career. My work in Aay received widespread appreciation.
I’m a huge fan of Devi Sri Prasad. I’ve always admired the way he sings, dances, and composes music, and his overall style and energy. He has been a massive inspiration to me. One day, I hope to become one of the most celebrated music directors in Telugu cinema.
My schedule is packed with OTT projects. Up next is 3 Roses Season 2 and a couple of projects for Aha. I’ve also completed a feature film and am in talks for a few more films. I’m taking things one step at a time, and my work on OTT projects has paved the way for me to take on bigger projects in Telugu cinema.
