Ayushmann Khurrana is coming back to the comedy genre after a very long time with Dream Girl 2. The movie is a spiritual sequel to the popular 2019 film, which both audiences and critics liked. However, nowadays, comedy is considered a double-edged sword in the movies. So during an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, Ayushmann was asked how the humour in Dream Girl 2 remains inclusive and doesn't cross any boundaries.

Approach to comedy in Dream Girl 2

The multi-hyphenated actor told us, "Of course, there's a certain social responsibility as an artist towards the public. I have always been a part of progressive cinema for the last 10 years to make sure that we don't cross that line. But having said that, it's a commercial and massy film. We are not saying anything; there's no message per se. It's a laugh riot."

During the promotions of An Action Hero in 2022, Ayushmann revealed that he would want certain films to be released directly on OTT now. The actor had shared, "You have to go for subjects that are slightly more niche and slightly more vocal. It has to be on OTT." When asked, given the current scenario of people thronging to theatres, has the actor's opinion changed?

On OTT and Cinema

To which the actor said, "OTT will work for more experimental films; the elbowroom for experimentation is greater. I have to do something life-altering away from my quirks; I would love to explore long format or short format on OTT. But the best part right now is that all big- and small-budget films are working in theatres. As far as the palette is concerned, it has to be slightly wider. I think the budget doesn't matter; maybe the tonality does. As I said, OTT could be more experimental and wacky, and I would love to explore that medium as well, though I have not done anything on OTT yet."

Thoughts on potential sequels

Dream Girl 2 marks Ayushmann's second sequel after Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. On being asked if there are any other movies of his that he would like to see a second instalment, the actor revealed, "I really don't know; until I get a good story, until it reaches that milestone of the first one, there's no point doing that. Maybe Andhadhun; I would love to because it has an open ending."
