Aziz Mirza directed the 1992 romantic comedy-drama Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman starring Shah Rukh Khan, Amrita Singh, Juhi Chawla, and Nana Patekar. Mani Kaul adapted the 1973 Hindi film Duvidha based on a Rajasthani short story by Vijayadan Detha, into the 2005 fantasy film Paheli. The film reportedly took some cues from the 1997 Kannada film Nagamandala, which was itself based on a play by Girish Karnad.The film is about a wife (Rani Mukerji) whose husband (Khan) goes on a business trip and is visited by a ghost (played by Sanjiv Chawla), who falls in love with her and takes her husband's place. Amol Palekar directed the film, while Juhi Chawla, Aziz Mirza, Sanjiv Chawla, and Shah Rukh Khan produced it. Juhi plays SRK's sister-in-law in the film.Mani Kaul based his 1973 film Detha on a folktale. Paheli enhances the story and the protagonist's feminist agency.
