Khamosh Adalat Jaari Hai

Cast: Nandita Das, Saurabh Shukla, and Swanand Kirkire.

Unlike cinema, the stage is a medium where creating intrigue is very tough because the padding is minimal and there is no luxury of a second take. In this fun satire involving stalwarts of Hindi cinema, it opens with a court argument that feels like a comical story. But the power of the story is such that the tables turn, and soon we are talking about social customs that have plagued us forever, gender discrimination, and unfulfilled desires that never make someone feel content.

Dayashankar Ki Diary

Cast: Ashish Vidyarthi.

What happens when someone aspires to be something, but life doesn't even give them a chance to see that dream, let alone feel or touch it? A very haunting play, Dayashankar Ki Dairy is about a man who always wanted to be an actor but couldn't and only got rejection and humiliation in return. To make himself feel better, he resorts to creating his own bubble where everything is okay and soon succumbs to it by making it feel like his reality. The world turns upside down, and this is a play you would wish you had seen live on stage. But nonetheless, ZEE5 has got your back.

Hasmukh Sahab Ki Wasihat

Cast: Mohan Agashe, Seema Pahwa, and Achint Kaur.

This play explores the layers of patriarchy, control, and the way Indian families function around the head of the family. When a rich businessman dies, he leaves behind a will. But to our surprise, even after his death, he wants to control the lives of his family members. The will dictates what they must do to receive their allocated wealth. But soon we also realise that the family members are smart, and they will find a loophole.

Between The Lines

Cast: Nandita Das and Subodh Maskara.

Nandita Das and theatre are a match made in heaven. What happens when both the husband and wife belong to the same profession, and that profession is law? Between The Lines is a play that features a couple who are both lawyers, always somehow landing on opposite sides of cases. The distress finds its way home, and they are no longer just husband and wife but lawyers fighting for their side of the story. This affects their relationship, and their marriage begins to suffer. What happens next is something you must witness.

Where Did I Leave My Purdah

Cast: Divya Dutta, Swara Bhasker, and Sohaila Kapur.

Nazia, a veteran theatre actor and founder of a theatre company, is now limited to playing grandmothers in movies. The agitation makes her leave the silver screen and come back to the world of thetare. She starts her company again and everything works smoothly until her niece Ruby’s daughter Nikhat comes into the story one day. This makes Nazia visit her past, which she has kept hidden under the disguise of being a stubborn, arrogant lady. When she has to confront the past, it is the best twist the play has to offer.
