Echo – Still waiting for that 6-minute long Daredevil vs Maya Lopez fight? Dissecting Charlie Cox’s cameo
Echo released on Disney+, and Disney+ Hotstar in India today and there was Daredevil too, but...
Echo and Daredevil
The world woke up to a new Disney+ X Marvel show as it kicked off a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Echo," starring Maya Lopez as the titular character, has dropped on the platform, and the world is rejoicing in the same. While there are some complaints, the show is somewhere impressing the majority of its viewers. While a lot of it is being discussed and dissected on the internet, and many are busy joining the dots even as you read this, the highlights became the violence that the TV-MA rating has enabled and that small Daredevil cameo. What Is The Conflict? But it turns out the lingering taste of that minute cameo has left fans confused because they were expecting a six-minute-long fight between Maya and Daredevil in the first episode of the show. The first episode (run backward if you haven’t watched the show yet) features a look-back into the past of Maya, where she goes on her first mission as an assassin employed by Kingpin. However, the same peddlers are also Matt Murdock’s targets, and a fight breaks out between the two. However, it is not even a couple of minutes completely. What Led To The Conflict? Director Sydney Freedland, in one of her interviews according to ComicBook, said, "[is] one shot, it’s six minutes long, and the story dictates everything. [She enters] that scene as a teenage girl, but she [leaves] as a cold-blooded killer. And it was important for me that the audience is able to see that transformation happen in real-time." This has led people to believe that there will be a single-take face-off between Matt and Maya in the first episode. Also Read: Echo Review - A violent underbelly where Avengers aren't mentioned? Now, we are talking But now, in retrospect, it feels like the comments were definitely misinterpreted, and the filmmaker was talking about the entire sequence and not just the combat between Echo and Daredevil. To give you an idea, the fight between the two only gets 90 seconds of screen time out of the 6 minutes. To add more to it, there is no trace of Matt Murdock until the third episode. Was The Hype For Daredevil Waste? Well, it is too soon to say that because the show is a well-shaped narrative that definitely respects every single character. So to say that the hype was of no use now is not the right thing. However, it is also teased that the show will set up Daredevil: Born Again. This means there is hope that Daredevil will appear in the finale episode of the season and establish his partnership with Echo to then have her in his standalone show.Watch Kadak Singh, Chamak, Scam 2003, Duranga 2 and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack which provides access to 19 OTTs at just ₹49 for the first month. Is Echo Worth? It certainly is. It introduces a new taste to the Marvel platter that had gotten too predictable and mainstream. There is a new vibe that Echo introduces to the MCU, and it is only possible because of the TV-MA rating that makes the inclusion of blood, violence, and visual gore possible. Echo is not your run-of-the-mill superhero flick but a crime drama that is slowly brewing into a very strong show. The fear here is the studio’s obsession with the mini-series format and then ruining things in the final episode by giving everything a hurried conclusion.Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
