5 best scenes from Dune: Part One
The curiosity of every cinema lover is going to be piqued for the entire year in 2024 as massive movies across the world are planned. There is enough from the world of DCU and MCU, and equally from Bollywood here in India. For Hollywood, there is a platter being served. But one film that is right now being looked at as the main course, of course, is Denis Villeneuve's directorial Dune: Part 2 starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in the lead. The movie that brings back the world of science and the thrills the first part brought with it is one of the most anticipated movies not just in the West but also across the world. So now, as we land in the week where the movie finally hits the big screen after a delay, we cannot hide our excitement. If you are uninitiated by any chance, the Dune franchise is based on the novella written by Frank Herbert with the same name. The movie stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin in pivotal parts with a massive ensemble. With its release, the first part introduced us to a world of science-fiction, kings, prodigies, successors, planets, and a whole lot of politics. The film was appreciated for the visuals that were presented and the idea about a parallel world that was fascinating and believable at the same time.Dune 1 was based on the first book and Dune: Part 2 aka Dune 2 will be based on the second. Which means the sequel will take off from where the first part ended and take the story ahead. So we thought of revisiting five best scenes from Dune 1 that make the base of this universe and also serve as a recap of what we have seen so far.ALSO READ: Aquaman star Jason Momoa return in Dune 3; Timothee Chalamet spills a lot of tea – Details inside

House Atreides Reign Over Arrakis

Nothing about Dune can be discussed without addressing the moment that forms the base of this story where the Atreides, the rulers of planet Caladan, are ordered to rule over Arrakis, another planet. It was Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) who first sensed something fishy in the set-up and saw it as a trap that would lead to his clan directly being pitted against the old rulers of Arrakis, House Harkonnen. This is where the hint of House Atreides’ strength is scaled because the Emperor probably looks at them as a threat to his throne and is trying to get rid of them by making them fight another house.

Duke Leto Atreides Was Killed

Duke Leto Atreides was the purest soul in the world of Dune and his ways couldn’t align with the ones who don’t want a righteous realm. His death was one of the most dramatic moments for the franchise as it not just led to a very interesting character end but also the rise of a new King who was assumed dead by the Harkonnen. You have to experience the sheer drama this moment holds here.Watch Tejas, Expendables 4, Australian Open, Cubicles 3, and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack, which provides access to 22 OTTs at just ₹249 for the first month.

Chani’s Cameo

Zendaya plays Chani, a quite mysterious figure in Dune. The part one didn’t feature a lot of her but a very brief cameo and one that establishes her pretty well. While we meet her in person by the end of the movie, what sets her story very mystically is the fact that she appears in Paul’s dream at one point. A Fremen, she has a massive role to play in the franchise going forward, and the trailer of Dune: Part Two has hinted at it enough.

Paul Atreides Dodges The Attack & Finds The Fremen

The Desert Power and its mystical significance are something that Leto always spoke about. When the Harkonnen and Sardaukar attack the Atreides, it leads to Paul and Lady Jessica fleeing into the desert to save themselves from getting imprisoned by the Harkonnen. Soon we see him cross paths with Stilgar and his Fremen. It is here where we see the king in Paul as he makes his first kill in combat. He joins the Fremen and this will have a massive impact on Dune: Part Two.

House Atreides Attacked By The Harkonnens And Sardaukar

Having talked about the betrayal and how Leto lost his life even when he was one of the wisest men in this universe, one cannot ignore the battle that led to it. Harkonnens strike The Atreides with the help of Sardaukar, an army that is backed by the Emperor. Soon we get to see a battle that is visually so stunning. But on the storyboard, it ends up flipping everything we have seen till this point. Now the reigns going to pass on, the family needs to elope and save themselves.
